Amy’s life began on July 7, 1923 in Peabody, KS. She is the youngest child of Clifford and Iza (Herber) Shough. She is a graduate of Fairplay High School in Fairplay, MO. and business school in Springfield, MO. Amy was united in marriage to Willie P. Nickels on September 21, 1941 in Dunnegan, MO. She was employed for 25 years at L & L Van Lines in El Dorado. Amy was a charter member of the Park Avenue Baptist Church and held every possible position in serving the church. She was a member of the Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and served as a “pink lady” for over 30 years. She loved delivering the mail at the hospital and staying active. Amy was a member of the American Baptist Women, the Business and Professional Women and was active in the PTA when her daughter was school age. Amy’s greatest joy was her family which includes her daughter Sharon (Max) Pendergrass of Concordia, grandchildren Brian (Lori) Pendergrass of Wichita and Lisa (Chris) Supple of Gardner; great grandchildren Alec Pendergrass, Haley Pendergrass, Marin Pendergrass, Ellie Supple and Nicholas Supple; sister in laws Mary and Vickie Nickels and several nieces and nephews. Amy passed away on April 25, 2019 at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters Ary Shough, Eva Glenn, Iza Reynolds and brothers George and Herb Shough. Her family will gather with friends on Sunday from 2-4 p.m. at the Carlson Colonial Funeral Home where her funeral service will be held on Monday at 10 a.m. led by Pastor Jurdan Counts. She will be laid to rest in Walnut Valley Memorial Park. Memorial contributions in Amy’s name may be directed to Park Avenue Baptist Church or the Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.
