Paul McCoy

December 20, 1945 ~ August 9, 2017 (age 71) 71 Years Old

Paul’s life began on December 20, 1945 in El Dorado. He is the son of Frank H. and Tressa (Kramer) McCoy. Paul is a 1964 graduate of El Dorado High School. His strong Catholic faith was instilled in him early by his family, and carried with him through his entire life. As a young man he was a member of the Knights of the Altar and the family continues the family tradition of monthly family rosaries. He was united in marriage to the former Marcia Sewell on June 8, 1974 at St. John’s Catholic Church in El Dorado. Paul began his careers managing multiple Sonic Drive-In locations in Eastern Kansas and Oklahoma; proceeded to drive nearly four million miles in semi-trucks from Louisiana to New Mexico; finally joining the Butler County South Highway maintenance shop in 1995 running the oil distributor until retiring from the county in 2012. In his earlier years Paul and his family and friends enjoyed frequent “float trips” in Missouri and Arkansas. He was a NASCAR fan and enjoyed going to Topeka to watch the NRHA drag races. Paul couldn’t go shopping or run errands in El Dorado without running into a friendly face and chatting. He enjoyed cooking for his family whether it was on the grill or his famous enchiladas. From baptisms to birthdays, Paul loved family events and treasured his entire family. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and reading his Louis L’amour western novels. His loving family includes his wife Marcia of El Dorado; sons William (Carri) McCoy of El Dorado, and Andrew (Kayla) McCoy of Webb City, MO; grandchildren Oliver and Molly Joe, siblings Herschel, Chet (Mary) and David (Marcia) McCoy, Emmy Kimberlin and Linda (Roger) Call; Mother in law Norma Wilson (Richard), Father in law Donald Sewell; Sister in law Donna Greene (McCoy), many nieces and nephews, and a host of longtime friends. Paul peacefully passed away at his home on Wednesday August 9, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. He is preceded in death by his parents, and siblings Marguerite Banks (Raymond), Larry McCoy and Leonard McCoy (Ruth), Brother in law Loy Kimberlin, and Sister in law Jan McCoy. Paul’s family will gather with friends on Sunday from 2-5 p.m. at the Carlson Funeral Home for visitation. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated by Father Michael Nolan on Monday at 10 a.m. at St. John’s Catholic Church with a Rosary service at 9:30 a.m. Monday. Paul will be laid to rest in Sunset Lawns Cemetery. Memorial contributions in his name may be directed to the Jack Wilson Memorial Fund (In Trust Bank) in care of Carlson Funeral Home.
