Mary Darlene McCoy

Mary’s life began on February 27, 1936 in El Dorado. She is the daughter of Harry H. and Icy E. (Rutherford) Murphy. Mary is a 1953 graduate of El Dorado High School and a 1961 graduate of Emporia State Teachers College. She was united in marriage to Chester L. McCoy on August 8, 1956 in El Dorado. Mary taught school for two years in Indianola, two years in Chelsea and ten years at Towanda Grade School. She was hired by Butler County to start the Meals on Wheels program and delivered the first meal in 1973. Mary was a member of the First Christian Church, and the Parkinson’s Support Group of the Plains in Wichita. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Mary had a special place in her heart for her Boston terrier Sammi. Her loving family includes her husband Chet of El Dorado, children Dana (Darcy) McCoy of El Dorado, Lesli ( Mark) Soles of Wichita and Jon (Susan) McCoy of El Dorado; grandchildren Danielle (David) Small, Daric McCoy, Ciera (Jordon) Whitson, Kylie Soles, Katelyn Soles, Jannelle McCoy, Jamie McCoy and Dustin (Samantha) Gurney; step grandchildren Michelle Dunson and Jennifer (Jacob) Dutton; great grandchildren Amelia Small, Cassie Soles, Simon Soles, Conner Whitson, Sawyer Whitson and step great grandchildren Haley Dutton, Skylar Dutton, Taylor Dutton, Katelyn Dutton, Natalie Dutton, Trey Dutton and Van Dutton. Mary passed away on December 5, 2017 at Lakepoint in El Dorado. She is preceded in death by her parents, one brother and two sisters. Her family will gather with friends on Friday from 5-7 p.m. at the Carlson Colonial Funeral Home. Her funeral service will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at the First Christian Church led by Pastor Stan Seymour. She will be laid to rest in Walnut Valley Memorial Park.
