Wilma’s life began on December 19, 1924, the first daughter of Arthur and Fannie (Stokes) Worrell in Leon, Kansas. She was a homemaker and enjoyed spending time with family. Wilma passed away, Sunday, October 9, 2016, having reached the age of 91 years old. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Bob, Joe, and Beryl Worrell; two sisters, Patsy Mauk and Mary Williams.

 

John’s life began on June 9, 1923, the youngest son of Elmer and Carrie (Ferguson) Simmons in Malta Bend, Missouri. John served his country in the United States Army from 1943 to 1946. He retired as a Credit Manager for Sherwin Williams Paint Company, and then from Smith-Gynn Callaway Clinic both in Springfield, Missouri. He loved playing tennis and spending time with family. John passed away Saturday, April 8, 2017, having reached the age of 93 years old. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Wilma; a brother, Oren Simmons and two sisters, Jewell Shaw and Alice Nuckles.

 

John and Wilma were united in marriage on December 7, 1963, in Kansas City, Missouri. Together they celebrated 52 years of marriage. They enjoyed playing cards, and traveling to see family and friends. Together in their younger years they also enjoyed dancing. In 2013 John and Wilma moved to Sacramento to be closer to their daughter. Their loving family includes their daughter, Linda Simmons and a granddaughter, Kayla both of Sacramento, California; John’s older daughter, Judith (Simmons) Cutsforth of Kansas City, Missouri; Wilma’s brother, Jerry (Marilyn) Worrell of Girard, Kansas; brother-in-law, Pete Mauk of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; and many nieces and nephews.

 

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 2, 2017, at 1:00 p.m. at the Carlson Colonial Chapel with Pastor Stan Seymour officiating. A private family inurnment will be held at Blankenship Cemetery in Rosalia, Kansas.

 

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in John and Wilma’s name may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 1820 E. Douglas, Wichita, Kansas 67214 or American Cancer Society, 330 S. Main, Suite 100, Wichita, Kansas 67202.
