Jay’s life began June 4, 1940 in El Dorado. He is the son of A. G. and Elizabeth (Morledge) Young. Jay was a 1958 graduate of El Dorado High School. He was united in marriage to the former Mary L. Doornbos in El Dorado on March 26, 1958 and enjoyed 58 years of marriage. Jay was a true man of the land, loving working his Black Angus cattle and living in the country. He also loved his quarter horses and watching them race. Jay had a knack of buying the best bulls at auction and he certainly enjoyed a good steak. Jay was a lifetime member of the American Quarter Horse Association, lifetime member of the Kansas Livestock Association and a member of the Cassoday United Methodist Church. His greatest joy was his family which includes his wife Mary of Cassoday; children Bob (Carolyn) Young of Yukon OK, and Kris (Chris) Martinsen of Eureka; grandchildren Ian (Kali) Young, Austin Young, Alexis (Steven) Vellek, and Clara (Jacob) Schankie; great grandchildren Karsen Young, Henry Young, Rylee Vellek, and Pate Schankie; and his siblings Richard (Jeanne) Young of Wichita and Anne (Larry) Wilson of El Dorado. Jay passed away on Wednesday November 15, 2017 at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital in El Dorado. He is preceded in death by his parents. Jay’s family will gather with friends on Saturday from 3-5 p.m. at Carlson Colonial Funeral Home. His funeral service will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Cassoday United Methodist Church.
