Alvena M. Bowlin

Of El Dorado

Alvena Mae Bowlin was born January 3, 1932 in Rosalia, Ks. the daughter of Alva E. and May E. (Perry) Fuller. Alvena passed away on February 21, 2017 in Whitewater, Ks, having reached the age of 85 years, one month and 18 days. She married Melbourne V. Bowlin on June 28, 1950 in Greenwich, Ks. They remained married for 59 years living most of those years in a home in Towanda, which they built together and where they raised their three children. In 1982, Melbourne’s job transferred them to Beaumont, Tx. where they lived until Melbourne retired in 1987. Upon retirement, they lived on a farm northwest of El Dorado, where they raised cattle and chickens. Alvena is survived by two daughters Della (Rick) Cooper of rural El Dorado, and Debbie (John) Denton of Wichita, daughter in law Jackie Bowlin of rural El Dorado, foster son Gene (Joy) Tharp of rural El Dorado, grandchildren Julie (George) Scott, Kristi (Joe) Haag, Jeremy (Barbara) Bowlin, Heather (Jim) Sinko, Heath (Amy) Denton, Jacob (Tonya) Cooper, Robert Bowlin, foster grandchildren Lea Tharp, Lisa Bowlin, Michael (Jeannie) Tharp, and 14 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by parents, husband and son Wayne Bowlin. Her family will gather with friends on Thursday from 5-7 p.m. at the Carlson Funeral Home. Her funeral service will be held on Friday at 2:30 p.m. at the Potwin Christian Church led by Pastor Chuck McCray. She will be laid to rest in Benton Cemetery following the service. Memorial contributions in Alvena’s name may be directed to the Potwin Christian Church.
